Roomba FAQs

What are the newest advancements with the iRobot Roomba® 500 Series?
The innovative new iRobot Roomba 500 Series robots feature dramatically improved cleaning coverage, brush design, vacuum pickup and particle filtration. They vacuum carpets and hard floors more efficiently while reaching deeper into corners and edges to pick up an amazing amount of dirt, pet hair, crumbs, dust and debris. The improved filter traps more dust, pollen and fine particles so allergens are trapped inside the robot. New anti-tangle technology helps Roomba navigate over rug fringe and cords without getting caught up or tangled. The new modular design makes routine maintenance, brush and filter cleaning and upgrades easier than ever.

How does Roomba know where to clean? Do I have to program it?
There's nothing to program. Roomba's sensors figure out the size and shape of your room, and continually readjusts its cleaning pattern until it has covered your whole floor, multiple times.

Will Roomba clean as well as I do?
Roomba is a robot, so it uses a different cleaning method than you would. Its compact size enables it to reach under furniture and other hard-to-reach places. Plus because Roomba works at the press of a button, you can use it more frequently to help you maintain a cleaner home - all week long.

Can it pick up pet hair? Will it startle my pet?
Roomba is great for keeping up pet hair; its counter-rotating brushes actually pull the hair out of rugs and off your hard floor. Everyone's pet is different, but most tend to react with curiousity at first, then soon after get used to it. Say goodbye to pet-hair tumbleweeds.

What’s the difference between a Virtual Wall® and a Virtual Wall® Lighthouse™?
A Virtual Wall creates an adjustable, invisible, infrared beam that iRobot Roomba® will not cross. Virtual Walls are used to block off-limit areas in your home. Each requires two D batteries (not included).

A Virtual Wall Lighthouse can be set to Virtual Wall mode or ‘Lighthouse’ mode. When set in Lighthouse mode, it ensures the most efficient room-to-room cleaning because it confines Roomba to one room until that room is thoroughly vacuumed before allowing Roomba to move on to the next room. It can also be set to Virtual Wall mode to mark off-limit areas. Virtual Wall Lighthouses are compatible with Roomba 500 Series robots (models 535 and up). Each requires two C batteries (not included).

What is the audio voice demonstration on the new Roomba 500 Series robots?
Each iRobot Roomba 500 Series Vacuum Cleaning Robot has a built in, friendly and informative audio voice demonstration that walks you through Roomba’s initial set up and alerts you when Roomba requires maintenance or assistance.

Dirt Dog FAQs

How does iRobot Dirt Dog® differ from iRobot Roomba?
Unlike the Roomba, iRobot Dirt Dog uses powerful, high-speed brushes, instead of a vacuum, to pick up small nuts, bolts, dirt, dust and other debris that end up on your workshop floor. The brush design, as well as the heavy duty wheels, was built to pick up and withstand the stubborn dirt and debris found on workshop, basement, garage and industrial floor surfaces.

How does iRobot Dirt Dog® know where to clean? Do I have to program it?
There’s nothing to program. iRobot Dirt Dog’s sensors figure out the size of your room and continually readjust its cleaning pattern until it has covered the whole floor, multiple times.

How does iRobot Dirt Dog® differ from other workshop vacuums?
iRobot Dirt Dog picks up small nuts, bolts, dirt, dust and debris that other vacuums may not get to, leaving you more time to get back to work, or kick up your feet after a long day. With a bagless design and no filters to clean or replace, its easier to empty.
